About the Teachers’ Resources
The SDG Africa Ambassador Schools Programme is founded on the belief that children are not only learners but active partners in shaping a sustainable future.
Anchored in Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) and Goal 4.7 (Education for Sustainable Development), the programme equips educators, librarians, and guardians to foster responsible
participation of children in sustainability learning and action.
Our approach is guided by the Nigeria Child’s Right Act 2003, which upholds every child’s right to express views freely in all matters affecting them—with
the guidance of parents and guardians—and to take part in decision-making within family, school, and community settings, in ways consistent with their evolving capacities.
The Teachers’ Mini-Manual, Implementing the Participation Rights of Children in Institutions, translates these rights—spanning Sections 7 (freedom of thought,
conscience, and religion), 8 (right to private and family life), 9 (freedom of movement), 10 (freedom from discrimination), 11 (dignity), 12 (leisure, recreation, and cultural activities), 15
(free, compulsory, and universal primary education), and related provisions—into practical steps for schools and community institutions. It helps adults create safe, inclusive spaces where
children’s ideas inform real action towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
Educators and librarians are invited to explore two key resources:
- The Ideas Sheets, filled with vibrant SDG-focused activity suggestions; and
- The PowerPoint presentation showcasing each manual in the Good Home Scheme Toolkit.
Available in the Teachers’ Resources section of the website, these materials demonstrate how to deliver, evaluate, and report on rights-based childcare and education service delivery
in institutions.
